In the spirit of the classic community cookbooks assembled by churches, PTAs, families, and charities, the Tables of Contents Community Cookbook is a collection of dishes and reflections on food from the home kitchens of 36 contemporary poets, essayists and fiction writers.
Featured contributors include: Alexander Chee, Carmen Maria Machado, Idra Novey, Tommy Pico, Emma Straub, Angela Flournoy, Nick Flynn, Nafissa Thompson-Spires, Pitchaya Sudbanthad, Leanne Shapton, Paul Lisicky, and other favorite alums of the TOC Reading Series.
This Community Cookbook came together in a matter of weeks. I'm honored to be a part of the work Evan Hanczor is doing with Tables of Contents in addition to contributing to the FIG's outreach and support of New York families. I was gifted many hats in this project and had fun wearing them all, from Illustration to layout.
In illustration, my goal was to express several styles that were within me. Each recipe has a life of its' own, I felt the artwork should reflect that. Don't ask me which one is my favorite! (I have some but don't tell the illustrations that). In design, my goal was clarity above all–but to have fun and transfer some of the illustration's energy into type selection and highlights.
