Tables of Contents Community Cookbook

Community Cookbook

Featured in the New York Times and recognized among the Best Cookbooks of 2021 by The New Yorker and Vanity Fair.

Inspired by the tradition of community cookbooks created by churches, schools, families, and local organizations, the Tables of Contents Community Cookbook gathers recipes and reflections from the home kitchens of 36 contemporary poets, essayists, and fiction writers.

Literary contributors include Alexander Chee, Carmen Maria Machado, Idra Novey, Tommy Pico, Emma Straub, Angela Flournoy, Nick Flynn, Nafissa Thompson-Spires, Pitchaya Sudbanthad, Leanne Shapton, Paul Lisicky, and many other alumni of the Tables of Contents Reading Series.

Produced in full color, the book features illustrations and design by Moriah Grace Rodriguez. Evan Hanczor—founder of Tables of Contents and longtime chef of Egg—provides an introduction along with selected recipes from the TOC archives, including Colombian Arepas de Queso from Paola Mendoza’s SANCTUARY and Broke n Rice from Danez Smith’s HOMIE.

All proceeds from the TOC Community Cookbook support the ongoing food relief efforts of FIG NYC.
